That's why we stay true to our Love Promise Community Commitment by partnering with a wide variety of community nonprofits and charities.

Every year, we join hands with our owners in the "Share the Love" event, giving back to our community-a community that's given so much to us.

So, every day, we strive to ensure our love is felt not just by our customers, but by all in our community. We do this because we feel it is the right thing to do.

We are proud to participate in the Love Promise Community Commitment. We're grateful, not only to be a part of our community, but to serve and support the causes and passions that are closest to our hearts, right here in our neighborhood.

All of the organizations we support have one thing in common: the unwavering dedication to improve the world and the lives of its people.

John Howard Subaru Aids Cancer Center for 4th Year  –  Breanna S

This was the fourth year that John Howard Subaru partnered with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) on their month-long "Subaru Loves to Care" campaign, which aims to help people live healthier lives. General Sales Manager Patrick Foust had the opportunity to deliver 10 arts and crafts kits and 80 blankets to patients receiving treatment at Zelda Stein Weiss Cancer Center of Mon Health Medical Center on July 19. The blankets will provide warmth to patients who get cold during treatment, and the art kits can be used by any children receiving treatment or who accompany their parents or family members to oncology appointments. The cancer center’s staff said that their patients absolutely love receiving the gifts each year and are grateful to the John Howard Subaru team for selecting them as a partner again this year. Bill Hennessey, Executive Director of the Mon Health Medical Center Foundation, is retiring later this year. He made sure to attend the delivery to thank Patrick personally because this program and John Howard Subaru’s partnership has been so important. LLS sincerely thanks John Howard Subaru’s management and staff, Subaru of America, and the staff and patients at Zelda Stein Weiss Cancer Center for making this wonderful program possible. John Howard Subaru especially has our gratitude for this generous donation, which will bring hope, love and warmth to cancer patients and their families throughout the community.

John Howard Subaru Forges Relationship with MTEC  –  Robert J

John Howard Subaru has joined forces with the Monongalia County Technical School (MTEC) to assist in their Automotive Technology Program. The management team of John Howard Subaru has met with the Administration and Technical staff at MTEC (Monongalia counties only High School and Adult continuing education facility) and came up with a sponsorship program for the school. The staff from John Howard Subaru has been meeting with the faculty and the student body, providing insights into the retail automotive industry while sharing Q&A's with the students over doughnuts, pizza lunches. John Howard Subaru is even supplying vehicles for the students to diagnose and repair so they can gain "hands-on" experience in the art of automotive repair. The vehicles are then rechecked by the technicians at John Howard Subaru and then the vehicles are sold at auction and the results are shared with the students. Some students have shared their desire to become automotive technicians after graduation and will be given the opportunity to join the John Howard Team in their apprentice program. These selected individuals will be given the opportunity to become Subaru Certified and earn their Master Technician Certification. The John Howard dealerships reward the apprentices by paying them current technician wages, provide raises as their education level increases and then rewards them by purchasing the required tools and giving them to the employees at the conclusion of the training period. John Howard Subaru takes great pride in our community and is happy to support the good work being done at MTEC.

John Howard Cares: Comforting Cancer Patients  –  Breanna S

John Howard Subaru and The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) recently teamed up once again to spread love, hope and warmth to cancer patients and their families in the Morgantown area. During the month of June, customers and employees at John Howard Subaru were invited to write personalized messages of hope for cancer patients. In all, the dealership collected more than 100 of these “care cards,” which were later distributed at the Zelda Stein Weiss Cancer Center of Mon Health Medical Center. Along with these encouraging notes, the dealership generously donated 80 blankets to the cancer center. To patients receiving chemotherapy, air-conditioned treatment facilities can feel incredibly cold, and many hospitals rely on donations of quilts, afghans and other blankets to keep their patients warm and comfortable. Jeff Meadows, General Manager of John Howard Subaru, personally handed blankets out to men and women receiving treatment and took the time to get to know the patients and the dedicated medical professionals who care for them. He laughed with a patient named Karen, who was trying to convince other patients to pose for a photo by telling them that this picture would make them famous. He spoke with oncology nurse Kimberly Roderick and learned that she recently won Mon Health’s Cardinal Award, which honors nurses who exemplify Mon Health’s mission, vision, and values daily. Jeff clearly brightened the day of everyone he met. John Howard Subaru also gifted the cancer center 10 arts and crafts kits packed full of Crayola products, which will help children who accompany a loved one to treatment feel more at ease. One of the patients Jeff met was excitedly telling him about her plans to color with her grandchildren the next time they visited her in treatment. Cancer center staff members and patients all greatly appreciated the donation, and thanked the John Howard team for thinking of them. LLS is grateful to John Howard Subaru’s management, staff and customers for giving their time and resources so generously to cancer patients at the Zelda Stein Weiss Cancer Center, Mon Health Medical Center, and throughout the Morgantown community. Thank you for supporting our mission to cure blood cancers and to improve the lives of patients and their families.

Cold Hands, Warm Hearts: Care for Cancer Patients  –  Breanna S

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Western PA & WV was proud to partner with John Howard Subaru on their inspiring “Loves to Care” program. The dealership is a long-time supporter of Mon General Hospital, and often contributes on a large scale, such as raising over $10,000 for the hospital’s new radiation therapy center. But when John Howard representatives arrived at MGH on July 11, their goal was to make an immediate, tangible impact on a personal level for patients undergoing treatment at the Zelda Stein Weiss Cancer Center. One unpleasant side effect of chemotherapy is that some patients constantly feel cold. To make their treatment more comfortable, John Howard Subaru donated 80 throw blankets in Subaru’s signature blue. They also distributed 10 Crayola arts and crafts kits to help keep patients or their accompanying family members preoccupied while waiting for the cancer-fighting medicine to do its work. The patients and staff at the Zelda Stein Weiss Cancer Center were incredibly appreciative of John Howard Subaru’s thoughtful contribution. A true team effort, the delivery included eight medical professionals from the hospital as well as the Executive Director of The Foundation of Mon General Hospital, Bill Hennessey. Many thanks to Patrick Foust, Jeff Meadows, and Ryan Pujals, who represented the dealership, joined by Molly McGowan of Subaru of America.

Subaru and NWF Loves the Earth  –  Sharon P

Upon receiving the garden, many students were so excited to get involved in creating Ridgedale's own wildlife habitat. We started by building a raised bed for our pollinator garden. After building and planting in the raised bed, our kids began to see birds, bugs, and vegetation begin to flourish. We continued to add to our wildlife habitat as we received more items. Our students started by checking the area and finding the most beneficial areas for the birdbath, feeders, toad abode, and bird houses. We chose trees that had the best environment for the birds, and an area that would best suit the toad habitat. Students built the habitat and ensured it would be a useful and flourishing habitat for students at the school to use, love, and learn for years to come.

Each year in Monongalia County over 1,000 reports of abuse are made to Child Protective Services regarding child abuse and neglect. The Monongalia County Child Advocacy Center is a nonprofit agency founded in 2005 that advocates for these young victims of abuse and neglect. By providing a child-friendly, safe environment where children and their families can be interviewed, receive treatment and education, children and families can begin to heal. In addition to the fund-raising, we also sponsored a "Fill the Forester" event to collect teddy bears and other stuffed animals for the kids at MCCAC.
